the album art i used for “music for ghosts in space”, which was an unused piece for my brother’s album “sound sculptures”. i think it fits my album better.

i started this album for a couple of reasons. i wanted to wrap my head around a new DAW and i wanted to cement some ideas i’d never fully finished realizing.

this project contains a lot of riffs i’d written during my times as a bassist, and the sound is very much inspired by the jam sessions that our drummer and i would share in the liquor-stained basement under our college dorm room, which was built sometime before the vietnam war.

i fused our “space odyssey jazz fusion” style with some inspiration from mort garson and i quite like the result, though it’s a little rough around the edges.

i also poached the album art from an unused concept i volunteered for one of my brother’s albums. the title of this album was very much inspired by phantasy star online - a ship leaves earth to explore the universe and never returns.

i didn’t anticipate making a significant amount more music after this, and it’s interesting to me to see that i’ve started sowing the seeds of apocryphal music as i call it; church-hymnal chord progressions, often dorian modes, tainted with pagan melodies and witch-like sensibilities. the piccardy third is a favorite of mine and it’s here to stay.
