this album might be my favorite one, and it’s very special to me. i spent a lot of time at all the coffee shops in the montrose houston area, and i know a good number of witches did, too. this album was very much for them. each song is named after one of my favorite coffee shops in houston.

when i was in law school i’d sit on the patio outside black hole with a topo chico and a cortado, and eavesdrop on the witches. i learned of their blood moon rituals, and of nate the goat god who once ruined an orgy. there were the witches who used drugs in their rituals, and witches who believed drugs ruined the natural spiritual connection between souls. i loved the idea of rival witch covens flinging spells in the streets. it was more real than you might think.

they may not know it but the witches got me through law school. well, that and the strong friendships i made with the regulars of the nook, and the nitro thai tea that coral sword has on tap.

each track takes inspiration from music i’ve found spiritual throughout my life - hymns, mantras, whatever brings souls closer to the black hole at the center of the universe. i wanted pure spirituality. i think i achieved it, as i can still feel the love for houston that seeps in each track, even if the mastering isn’t perfect. it keeps getting longer since i’ve lived there and this album is a nice ode to remember the houstonian i once was.
