more about AlienSeedDarkWorld
i began this album by trying to find instruments that reminded me of human voices - i have always loved a cappella harmonies and i wanted to get something similar to that. it was only after i started making some noises in reaper that i realized i had darkseed on my mind. as silly as those games are, the music is iconic to me; 90’s PC instrumentals from a midi file are something special. i love the way mark morgan uses percussion since it’s completely different to the way i’m used to using it, and i took heavy inspiration from this as well.
i tried more than ever to fully lean on heavy usage of 7th and 9th notes, with slightly more complicated chord progressions than I’ve used in my other albums. the second half of this album has tracks with a lot of anxiety and tension from this - i’ve pushed it about as far as i feel i can while still sounding good. i’m thrilled with the high tension at the start of track 7 (the boss battle track), and the key change by jumping a minor third in track 5 is something i don’t know that i’d have done before but I’m happy it’s gone so well. the b dominant chord in track 4 (the portal to a dark world track) is something i’m in love with as well. i’m hoping with this album i can put some of these musically-tense concepts to bed and do something a little more grounded and harmonious in my next project; perhaps i’ll create something a little more similar to my initial aim before darkseed took over.
